Prepare an outline for LightBurn

Laser mode produces closed outlines on a CUT DXF layer. Engrave produces centerlines on an ENGRAVE layer from high-contrast strokes. A centerline is meant to be followed once; a thick line traced in Laser creates two edges. Detail and Photo are colored artwork and have no color-mode DXF export.

  1. Crop the design and use Laser for cutting, or Engrave for line work.
  2. Set Cut width to millimeters and enter the intended width. SVG retains a viewBox and physical width; DXF uses millimeters with Y pointing up. Both CUT and ENGRAVE layer names are declared in the DXF tables for LightBurn.
  3. Open the file in LightBurn, check its width and height, zoom into holes and intersections, and inspect overlapping segments. Use the in-app Machine check score as an advisory only.
  4. Set power, speed and material in LightBurn for your own machine. Use framing and a test piece before a job.
  5. Optional preview G-code (.nc) from outline modes is a dry-run toolpath — set feeds, origin and Z on your controller. Do not treat it as finished CAM.

Independent parsers verify file structure and dimensions; a physical laser run remains a separate acceptance step. Cutline does not claim embroidery stitch files (DST/PES/JEF).
